The Intercultural Doctoral Studies Program at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary at Evangel University will host a public lecture, "God's Missionary People in the 21st Century," with Dr. Charles Van Engen on Thursday, December 3 from 2-3:15 p.m. in the William J. Seymour Chapel at AGTS.

Dr. Van Engen is the Arthur Glasser Professor Emeritus of Biblical Theology of Mission and Senior Professor of Biblical Theology of Mission at Fuller Theological Seminary. He has taught in the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller since 1988. Before coming to Fuller he was a missionary in Mexico, working primarily in theological education. Van Engen also taught missiology at Western Theological Seminary in Michigan and served as president of the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America from 1998 to 1999. He is the founding president and CEO of Latin American Christian Ministries, Inc.

A prolific author, Van Engen has published many books, chapters in books and papers. Among these many books, his wide-ranging publications include Paradigm Shifts in Christian Witness (2008, coedited with Darrell Whiteman and J. Dudley Woodberry); Communicating God's Word in a Complex World (2003, coauthored with Daniel Shaw); Evangelical Dictionary of World Missions (2000, coedited with Scott Moreau and Harold Netland) and Mission-on-the-Way: Issues in Mission Theology (1996).

"What an honor and joy to have Dr. Charles Van Engen lecture at AGTS," said AGTS President Mark Hausfeld. "His topic is vital to hear and embrace. The missiology of the local church must be theologically deeper than monthly financial giving and/or where to go on mission's trips. The local and global church must be thinking about the nations in our neighborhoods that the Great Commission calls us to make disciples of Jesus."

Van Engen is involved in the American Society of Missiology, Association of Professors of Mission, the International Association of Mission Studies, the Evangelical Missiological Society, the Academy of Evangelism in Theological Education and the Latin American Theological Fraternity.

This lecture will be streamed live on this page.
